At 27 Two 6 beauty we offer 1-2-1 skin consultations. It is now that time of year, where the weather starts getting colder and skin becomes more sensitive and drier.
Why is my skin so dry in the winter months?
In the winter the temperatures get lower and humidity levels result in dry air that draws moisture away from the skin. Harsh winter winds and dry indoor heat can make the dryness worse and can lead to cracked skin or sometimes even bleeding skin, skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis may flare up during the cold months also. We recommend you book in with one of our therapists at 27 Two 6 beauty as skin specialists we can understand what is causing the problem & arrange a treatment plan for you.
A combination of dying or dead skin cells makes up the skin barrier. The skin barrier forms a layer of protection that prevents harmful toxins from entering the body. When the skin barrier sustains damage, the skin can appear dry and irritated. Moisture is essential for the skin barrier to perform well, there is less moisture in the skin during winter than in the summer. During the winter months people tend to turn their heating up high which reduces humidity and affects the moisture in our skin, however, at the same time the cold outdoor weather, harsh winds and rain can strip the skin of its natural moisturizing oils.
Another cause of dry skin in the winter is taking hot baths or showers which can also damage the surface of the skin, leading to dryness.
Symptoms of dry skin:
- Flaking
- Rough patches
- Redness
- Itching
- Stinging
- A raw, sensitive to the touch feeling
How to help/ prevent dry skin:
Dry and damaged skin needs moisture. It is best to keep a skincare routine and not to overload your skin, this means using quality skin products such as what we recommend at 27 Two 6 Beauty. We only use medical grade skin products made by surgeons who understand the science behind the skin.
Using a serum & a moisturiser is one of the best ways to rehydrate your skin and prevent water loss from the skin, using moisturiser with least SPF 30 without a perfumed fragrance is the best thing to use, as heavily scented moisturizers can irritate or even sting dry skin, Hyaluronic acid is one of the best acids to help with extra moisture in the skin!
Depending on our findings from your skin consultation we could recommend our vital C serum & night cream or Stem cell serum & Prevention SPF the combinations are endless and completely depend on what our skin experts recommend
Preventing dry skin:
- Adjusting your skincare routine: changing your moisturizer to a more intense one, adding an extra serum which helps to lock in that extra hydration, using a rich night cream ect
- Exfoliate 1-2 times a week
- Using a hydrating face masque once a week
- Regular facials
- Drink plenty of water
