PCOS and Adult Acne

Adult Acne and PCOS So, this week we will be exploring Adult Acne and to encourage more people to seek help through skin care and not suffer in silence or try and hide behind makeup (trust me this isn’t helping). Adult Acne can be hard to deal with, most people associate it with hormonal teens and even though hormones are a major cause, they are forever changing, from your teenage years, to monthly periods, to pregnancy and menopause they can hit you with Adult Acne at any age. Other causes include: - Oily/spot prone skin - Stress - Pollution - Diet A very common cause of Adult Acne is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. A condition that affects how a woman’s Ovaries work with follicles of underdeveloped sacs that eggs are meant to be released from. Don’t worry you’re not alone! The NHS say that around 1 in 5 women suffer from PCOS and some symptoms can be managed. The main visual symptoms are weight gain, excessive hair caused by increased male hormones and oily skin/ Acne. Hair is most likely to grow on the face, chin, chest, back and buttocks. You’re best to avoid shaving and pop into the Salon for a wax. This will help thin the hair out and make it grow back slower. The Acne can be managed by introducing advance skincare into your routine that will not strip or dry out and damage your skin. Before we talk about products let’s talk about the 3 Acids that are going to help clear your skin, brighten and reduce fine lines: Glycolic Acid: Very exfoliating, penetrates deeps and sloughs off dead skin cells revelling brighter, smoother, more glowing skin. Salicylic Acid: Breaks down the bonds holding dead skin cells together blocking pores, gets into the pores and throws out dirt, oils and bacteria (great for blackheads and ingrown hairs) Lactic Acid: Exfoliates the dead skin cells, better for more sensitive skin Hyaluronic Acid: Super hydrating, it can hold 1000 times it’s weight it water, plumping the skin Malic Acid: Exfoliating, PH balancing, increased skin renewal and moisture retention (Top Tip: commonly associated with apples. An apple a day keeps the spots at bay!) If you suffer from Acne, breakouts and oily skin, re-boot your skin care regime I would recommend you start with the Ordemic and Ageless Collections from the Image Skincare range we offer. Ormedic is full of organic ingredients with Medical Effectiveness including organic Green Tea which will act as an anti-inflammatory for inflamed breakouts. Soothing, Calming and hydrating Aloe Vera and Chamomile for reducing redness and irritation while balancing the skin. Perfect for teens, unbalanced and sensitive skin. Top tip: That wax you just booked? This collection is perfect for post wax soothing. The Ageless collection should be gradually introduced as it contains the Acids above and Retinol (Vitamin A top anti-ageing ingredient) and the skin needs to adjust. The products are designed to reveal, newer, fresher and younger looking skin while helping renew the effects of ageing and acne reducing the appearance of fine line, wrinkles and scaring. My Top products from each range: Ordemic Balancing facial cleanser You can put whatever amazing products on your skin that you want, but if you are not putting them on beautifully clean, fresh, make up free skin they are not going to be as effective. It includes Organic green tea and chamomile and soothing botanicals leaving the skin soft, hydrated and naturally clean. Ageless Total Resurfacing Masque This is an amazing triple action mask that contains Glycolic, Lactic, Salicylic and Hyaluronic acid (I know, wow!) it is also a skin brightening agent that will help with uneven skin tone and age spots. Top Tip: This is perfect to use as your own at home mini peel. My top facial recommendations: The o2 Lift This facial is packed full of oxygen and is great for dull, tired, clogged up skin. Oxygen offers numerous benefits for a healthy, radiant complexion: It helps bring clarity to troubled skin, purifies clogged pores, supports collagen production and brightens dullness. This treatment has an enzymatic peel that you feel lift all your dead skin off leaving smoother fresher looking skin. The Signature Facelift This is a facial is packed full of Vitamin C, enzymes and the Acids we love to speed up cellular renewal, support redness prone skin and detoxify for noticeable results in one session. This facial will leave you with fresher, brighter more hydrated skin. SkinBase, the UK’s leading Microdermabrasion provider has said that around 95% of adults have Acne scaring (Again, you’re not alone). If your Acne is calmed down and you are left with the scars to show, we also offer great treatments that will help revive and repair your skin. Dermatude (non-surgical facelift) This treatment uses tiny needles that penetrate the first layer of the skin promoting the natural healing mechanism of the skin. This does NOT make you bleed and there is NO down time after. It wakes up the skin to improve collagen and elastin production while fading fine lines, wrinkles and scaring. Microdermabrasion This treatment uses fine crystals to exfoliate the top 3 layers of your skin, fast tracking your skin renewal process, along with a vacuum to remove dead skin cells and encourage lymphatic drainage (removal of toxin) leaving you with cleaner, glowing skin. The renewal process also helps lift pigmentation and smooth out fine lines and scarring. We are always happy to welcome you into the salon for a free consultation to find out what your concerns are and recommend you the best products and services for your skincare needs.
